“Sitting there yakkin' right in my face / Guess I'm gonna have to put you in your place / You know If silence was golden, you couldn't raise a dime / Because your mind is on vacation and your mouth is working overtime”
I can’t count how many times "Your Mind Is On Vacation" struck me from a stage when I was growing up. It seemed to be a part of every traveling blues band’s set, and I saw a lot of these bands as a teenager.
“You're quoting figures, you're dropping names / You're telling stories, about the dames / You over-laughin when things ain't funny / You try to sound like you big money / If talk was criminal, you'd lead a life of crime / Because your mind is on vacation and your mouth is working overtime”
This is the ultimate “I shoulda/coulda said” song. Recovering from some insufferable conversation after a stupid encounter with another alpha-narcissist, it’s a song that frequently pops into my head.
“You know that life is short and talk is cheap / Don't make promises that you can't keep / If you don't like this little song I'm singing, just grin and bear it / All I can say is if the shoe fits wear it / If you must keep talking, please try to make it rhyme / Because your mind is on vacation and your mouth is working overtime”
