Good evening. I missed writing to you last week, though there was a lot I wanted to share. Everything went by so fast, but I should come out with it: we just moved to LA.
After the last two months of living out of a bag, it doesn't quite feel real yet. Not least because we are staying in a temporary apartment for the first month, but it's still true: our decision to move west has come to fruition.
Many factors contributed: the work I do in podcasting has seen its center of gravity shift out here, and the music scene is much more vibrant here as well.
For quite some time back in New York I had felt a lack of traction, even though my creative life is peaking. Just landing here this week, not only am I seeing an abundance of places to play, but the natural energy vibrates through everything. Which makes for a much more satisfying day-to-day.
The 3200 mile drive we took in a rented minivan, creaking along with all our stuff, got me reflecting on human migration patterns, on rootlessness and on just how well-worn some of these paths already are.
We had epic BBQ in Louisville, surprisingly rich coffee in Wichita, a desert blast in New Mexico and then we rested for a day in Zion Canyon - at which point it started to sink in: we are really doing this.
It's an adventure. A creative energy-shot, an effort to connect further, to learn new things and explore the worthiness of certain new sounds I've been making.
I'll be letting you know how it goes. Please let me know how your summer is going - hit reply. I'm here.
Love,
Trevor
